For the past 19 years, the City of Boynton Beach has distributed $25,250 in scholarships to 45 high school seniors. The City’s Education & Youth Advisory Board is currently accepting applications for its 20th Student Citizen of the Year. The recipient will receive a $1,000 cash award at a City Commission Meeting.
The Student Citizen of the Year awards a high school senior who epitomizes the spirit of volunteerism. Last year’s recipient, Alana Thomas, from Santaluces High School, was ranked 15th in her class and volunteered 1,300 hours to multiple organizations within Palm Beach County.
Applicants must reside in the City of Boynton Beach and be active volunteers. The deadline to apply is Friday, March 29. Applications may apply for the “Bob Borovy Student Citizen of the Year” Award online. Staff is available at the following recreation facilities to assist students through the process: Carolyn Sims Community Center, (225 NW 12th Ave.), Ezell Hester Community Center (1901 N Seacrest Blvd.), Boynton Beach Tennis Center (3111 S. Congress Ave.), and Intracoastal Park Clubhouse (2240 N Federal Hwy.). For further information, call 561-742-6224.
The award is named after the late Bob Borovy, a United States Veteran and former Advisory Board member.
