COLLECTION DESCRIPTION

Historical Note: The Bank of Boynton opened in 1915 on Ocean Avenue in the Harrell Block and in 1924 relocated to the SE corner of Ocean Avenue and U.S. 1; the bank failed in 1928. In 1947, the bank was reorganized as Boynton Beach State Bank in the same location, then moved in 1953 to 115 N. Federal. In about 1961, the bank is renamed First Bank of Boynton Beach and in 1969 the First Bank and Trust. In 1974, they moved to a new building. In 1981, the bank was purchased by Florida Coast Bank, then by Barnett Bank in 1984, then NationsBank in 1997. and in 1998 a merger results in Bank of America. Bank of America moved to Woolbright Road in 2011.

Scope and Content Note: Chiefly related to advertising and publicity for the First Bank of Boynton Beach and later the First Bank and Trust Boynton Beach, including clippings, mock-ups of ads, photographs of events and staff. Also includes the 1947 charter and amendments through 1973, and certificate of authority for renaming of bank in 1977.
