City Celebrates Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s Legacy

Boynton Beach Celebrates Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s Legacy

The City of Boynton Beach will celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with events throughout the month of January. The 3rd annual MLK Parade will take place on Saturday, Jan. 7. The parade will start at 2:00 p.m. at the corner of Ocean Avenue and Seacrest Blvd. and continue north to MLK Blvd.  The intersection of Boynton Beach Blvd. and Seacrest Blvd. will be closed from 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. for the parade. 

The “Celebration of Unity” event will commence after the parade at Sara Sims Park, 209 NW 9th Court. The event begins at 3:00 p.m. and lasts until 7:00 p.m. Radio personality Ms. Naysimone from X102.3 will host the event. There will be food, retail vendors, children’s activities, a performance from St. John Missionary Baptist Church’s praise dancers and R&B, soul and funk music by The Valerie Tyson Band and Pocket Change.

The City’s celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. continues with a series of events to encourage community participation:

  • On Sunday, Jan. 15, there will be a Celebration Gala at Benevento Restaurant, 1730 N. Federal Highway, from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Tickets must be purchased in advance.
  • On Monday, Jan. 16, there will be a MLK Day of Service at the Ezell Hester Community Center, 1901 N. Seacrest Blvd., at 7:30 a.m. Participants will restore the outside of senior citizens' homes.
  • On Friday, Jan. 20, the MLK celebration will conclude with a free Music on the Rocks concert at the Ocean Ave. Amphitheatre, 129 E. Ocean Ave., from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. The concert will feature music from Spread the Duve. Food trucks will be on site.

The month’s events are hosted by the Boynton Beach Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Committee, in partnership with the City of Boynton Beach and the Boynton Beach Community Redevelopment Agency.
