FREE Swim on July Program Teaches Basic Water Safety Skills
Drowning remains the number one cause of accidental deaths in children under the age of 4. Swimming lessons can help change that statistic. In an effort to enhance drowning prevention efforts in our community in honor of July is Parks and Recreation Month, the City of Boynton Beach Recreation & Parks Department will implement the “Swim On July” water safety program from July 11 – July 21 at the John Denson Pool.
Children will learn the basics of being able to self-rescue and fundamental water safety principles so they don’t get into a situation that they cannot get out of. Floating, bobbing to safety, basic arm and leg actions for forward mobility and recognizing unsafe conditions will be highlighted. A series of four (4) 30-minutes lessons will be offered Tuesday-Friday, July 11-14 and July 18-21. Parents can get more information, including how to register their child, by calling the Pool at 561-742-6645.
Another way to help reduce accidental drowning is to secure your home if you have a pool or live adjacent to a body of water. To help residents in this effort, free door alarms are available and are being distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
