City Awarded $3,000 Spencer Educational Foundation Grant

The City of Boynton Beach has been awarded a grant, in the amount of $3,000, from the Spencer Educational Foundation, which funded a summer intern in the Human Resources and Risk Management Department. This is the second year that the City of Boynton Beach has been awarded the Spencer Educational Foundation Grant.

This year’s intern, John Churey, is entering his senior year at Florida State University (FSU) with a dual major in Risk Management Insurance and Entrepreneurship. He is a Boynton Beach native. During his tenure with the City, Churey has assisted with annual cost allocation calculations, reviewed insurance policies and contracts, and provided coverage for the Workers’ Compensation (OOPS) Injury line, which provides assistance with injuries and incidents that occur during off-hours.  He also attended the Risk Insurance Management Society (RIMS) Annual State Conference, where he learned best business practices.

“The internship with the City of Boynton Beach has provided me the opportunity to gain first-hand experience in the areas of risk management and insurance;” indicates Churey. “It has been a privilege to be a part of a dedicated team focused on providing its customers and employees with safe environments.”

The Spencer Educational Foundation was established in 1979. It manages the RIMS Student Involvement Program which provides promising undergraduate, graduate, doctoral and part-time students with day-to-day learning opportunities in risk management and insurance disciplines.
