It is Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s Birthday on Monday, January 20 and the City is celebrating in a BIG way. Everyone is invited to attend and honor his legacy between the hours of 12 Noon and 4:00 p.m. The program is full of history, education, music and activities.
Performances include gospel choirs and dancers from Calvary Chapel Boynton Beach, Community Deliverance Church, and St. John Missionary Baptist Church; Gospel Rapper JIG Harvey; DJ Thayri Wilson, Livin’ the Rhythm Drum Circle, Author Dr. Martha Norfus Meeks-Light and her son Victor Norfus; Boynton Beach Community High School- Tigers ROAR Band and Congress Middle Schooll Cheerleaders.
Children of all ages can participate in activities such as face-painting; balloon art; Lego play area; free play on the basketball courts; rock painting; chalk art; bounce houses; hula-hoops; building blocks, corn hole; ping-pong; and jenga. To top it off – the Boynton Beach Police Department Hummer, complete with video games in the rear for children to play and the Boynton Beach Fire Rescue Department Truck will be giving away firefighter hats.
Twenty-one civic and non-profit organizations will showcase their community services in fun and interactive ways. For instance, the Habitat for Humanity South Palm Beach County, will be providing a fun arts and crafts project and residents. Participating agencies include the Alpert Jewish Family Service; BIBIYOA; Boynton Beach City Library; Boynton Beach Fire Rescue Department; Office of Sustainability; U.S. Census Bureau; City of Boynton Beach Code Compliance Department; City of Boynton Beach Public Works Department; City of Boynton Beach Recreation and Parks Department; Connect to Greatness, Inc.; Eta Eta Sigma Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority; Faith Based CDC; Feeding South Florida; Habitat for Humanity South Palm Beach Countyy; Healthier Boynton Beach; Marie Louise Cancer Foundation; Pathways To Prosperity - P2P; Schoolhouse Children's Museum and Learning Center and Men of Distinction.
Christ Fellowship is cooking up lunch - hot dogs, hamburgers, chips, drinks and ice cream sandwiches for the first 500 attendees until 2:30p.

The MLK Committee has selected a resident, an organization, and a business that have contributed to Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s ideology of giving back. Willie Aikens will receive the Community Leader Award, the Heart of Boynton Community Association, Inc. will receive the Community Organization Award and Robinson’s BBQ (represented by Larry Robinson) will receive the Community Business Award.
The Celebration will take place at the City’s new Sara Sims Park (209 NW 9th Avenue). Parking is available at Poinciana STEM Elementary Magnet School(1203 N. Seacrest Boulevard) and Carolyn Sims Center (225 NW 12th Avenue).
Don't forget to bring your blankets and chairs! An American Sign Language interpreter will be present.
