Mack McCray, a four-time former commissioner, was originally appointed to the City Commission in 2001, elected in 2002, re-elected in 2005 and appointed in 2012. During this time, he served as Vice Mayor in 2004 for one year and again in 2012 when the Vice Mayor moved up to Mayor. McCray was elected in March of 2014 and served as Vice Mayor during that term of office. He was re-elected in March of 2017 to his District II seat for a three-year term.
Bringing a wealth of experience in community, non-profit and multicultural settings to the City, Commissioner McCray is known for his ability to build effective teams and inspire individuals to meet goals and objectives. He is a strong advocate of youth and senior programs and community redevelopment and is also an active in a number of political, professional and neighborhood organizations. Commissioner McCray served on the City’s Cemetery Board from 1999 to 2001.
Commissioner McCray is a long-time resident of Boynton Beach. He holds a Mortuary Science Degree from Lynn University and a bachelor’s degree in Health Care Administration from Florida Atlantic University. He is a licensed funeral director and embalmer at Mizell and Kurtz Funeral Home in Fort Lauderdale.
Commissioner McCray said he's ready to do more work for the City, including fixing the city's drainage issues, beautifying roads, supporting local businesses and marketing Boynton Beach Community High School.
"Boynton is kind of a little sleepy and we're going to wake it up," he said in a recent newspaper interview.
