Historical Note: Erma White (1898-1989) married Paul Mercer (1902-1970) in 1928. Their daughter, Joanne Mercer (1928-2016) married Jack Bedell Parker (1928-2007) in 1949, and they had several children, including Joni Parker (Morgan), in about 1950. Erma White was an elementary school teacher in the Palm Beach County system for many years. Paul Mercer was a prominent local businessman who was very active in local organizations.
Scope and Content Note: Family papers including photographs from Erma White Mercer, chiefly of Boynton Beach elementary school (1920s) and her teaching certificate; papers of Paul Mercer, chiefly certificates, correspondence, and clippings of his involvement with local community organizations, including the Boynton Beach State Bank (1959-1970), the Bethesda Hospital Board (1960s), the Rotary Club, the Shriners, and his 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason's hat; and clippings on his acquittal of the charges of running bolita gambling (1961). Also includes John B. Parker's scrapbooks of clippings of international World War II events; an embroidered pillowcase from Joanne Mercer Parker; and Joni Parker Morgan's photograph of Boynton Beach Elementary School 1956-1957 first grade class.
