Historical Note: Arthur Richard Cook (1899-1993) moved to Palm Beach County in 1916, and was a resident of Boynton Beach starting in 1923. Cook was Superintendent of the Boynton Beach water department for 15 years (c. 1925-1940), operations engineer of the water works at Palm Beach's Morrison Field (c. 1941-1946), and then returned to the Boynton Beach water department. A charter member of the Boynton Beach fire department, he was the Chief from 1945 to 1948.

Scope and Content Note: Three articles on Boynton Beach history, including the “History of the Boynton Beach Fire Department,” chiefly a recollection of significant fires from 1923-1939; “Boynton as it was in 1930: Listing residences and businesses by streets,” and "Boynton Fire Department history" clipping. Also a handwritten journal with daily entries noting the date, temperature (high, low, and average), weather (indicated by a code), and occasional notes on local events, deaths, marriages, storms, and Cook's movements (June 1971-Nov 1978).
