Q: How do I apply for a permit?
A: Please click the following link which has informative videos that provide step by step directions, https://www.boynton-beach.org/428/Sages-Permits
Q: When would I need to do a drainage plan?
A: Whenever any proposed building improvement decreases the permeable land area more than eight hundred (800) square feet on any parcel, you shall provide a professionally prepared drainage plan in accordance with the Engineering Design Handbook and Construction Standards.
Q: What is a hold harmless agreement?
A: A hold harmless agreement, HHA, is a legal document that states that pavers are not an acceptable material for use within Boynton Beach’s public right of way, but although it is not acceptable, the city is willing to allow the resident to install pavers so long as the resident accepts full responsibility for maintenance and reinstallation in all circumstances. The resident accepts that should the City need to perform maintenance in the right of way, where the pavers are located, then the resident will either remove the pavers in time and/or will replace the pavers once the City has completed construction.
Q: What are the engineering fees?
A: The engineering fee schedule can be found on the city of Boynton Beach engineering division’s website.
Q: How long is the review cycle for my plans?
A: Allow 15 business days per review cycle.
Q: I am no longer having work done that was permitted. What do I do?
A: Please contact the building department at 561-742-6000 and inform the attendant of your decision to no longer proceed with the permitted improvements.
Q: What is a Right-Of-Way?
A: Land dedicated, deeded, used, or to be used for a street, alley, walkway, boulevard, drainage facility, access for ingress and egress, or other purpose by the public, certain designated individuals, or governing bodies.
Q: Do I need a new survey to include with my permit application?
A: For new construction permits – the Survey should be no more than 6 months old. It must be prepared and sealed by a licensed surveyor. The survey shall illustrate existing improvements and natural features; existing utility lines and easements; and existing elevations. If it’s not a new construction – please make sure the survey is legible and to scale.
Q: Will my project require plans?
A: Engineering plans are required for all new commercial or residential construction including accessory dwelling units, additions, and remodels for which the scope of work includes structural alterations or revisions to the site that will directly or indirectly impact public facilities, structures, or systems.
For minor renovations such as driveways or fence permits, professionally prepared plans are not required. Rather, fully display the work proposed on a certified survey.
Q: How do I schedule an engineering inspection?
A: Please watch this brief video that will show you how to schedule an engineering inspection. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=myxxe8D6lTg
Q: What if I live in an HOA?
A: Prior to approving permits for a home within an HOA, the applicant will need to upload official documentation verifying that the HOA has granted the applicant permission to perform the work.
Q: I’m replacing the driveway with pavers, do I need to have the 5’X10’ flare?
A: Yes, we require the paver driveway to maintain the 5’X10’ flare. Driveway flares are intended to accommodate the turn radius of the vehicle when a car enters or exits the driveway.
Q: Who is responsible for a damaged driveway apron?
A: It’s the property owner’s responsibility to maintain his/her driveway apron.
Q: Are pavers and artificial turf considered impervious?
A: Yes, they are. Permitting for concrete pavers and artificial turf will both require drainage calculations should the proposed surface area of the material exceed 800 square feet.
Q: If I am constructing a duplex home, do I have to adhere to the twenty-four (24) feet width limitation for driveways?
A: According to city code, each unit of the duplex is required to have no less than two (2) parking spaces per dwelling unit. With these criteria, it is understandable for a duplex structure to have a driveway width that exceeds twenty-four (24) feet.
Q: What type of work will require a Right of Way permit?
A: Any work in the city’s right of way including but not limited to streets, utilities (electric, cable, water, sewer, cable) will require a Right of Way permit. Any trees, shrubs, or bushes that a resident wants to plant in the right of way shall require a permit.
Q: Can I track the plan review progress?
A: Anyone can review the progress of their submittal through the Sagesgov portal. Find a quick link to the online portal to the left of this screen.
Q: My plans have been approved. What do I do next?
A: Congratulations! You’re one step closer to making the improvements to your property. The next steps will be to pay all fees associated with the permit and print all the permits that you received.
