Adopt-A-Road Program

1000012846The City has implemented a program for volunteers from the community to adopt a road and assist the City in the removal of litter from City streets.  In return, the group would be recognized with signage located on the adopted designated road segment. The group would enter into a two-year agreement with the City, during which they agree to conduct litter removal on a monthly basis.

If interested, click on the link below to fill out and submit your application.   For further questions or concerns, please contact the Public Works Department at (561) 742-6200, option 2 or send an email to adopt-a-roadCOBB@bbfl.us for the Beautification and Streets Division.  Public Works will review the application and determine the safest location to conduct a litter pick-up.  A safety orientation will be scheduled prior to a litter event.  For profit groups, the program will be a $250.00 (includes one recognition sign and first year of agreement, plus $100 annual fee) cost share fee to help offset program costs.  Non-profit groups will have the initial fee waived.   One additional recognition sign will be $100.00 cost share fee.

There are many miles of roads within the City limits that need to be adopted.   It eases the load of City work crews, allowing them to devote their time to other road maintenance and special projects. In addition, it demonstrates community pride and makes a positive statement for a clean, attractive City.

Volunteers Agree to:

  • “Adopt” a one-mile section of road & sign an agreement
  • Dedicate two years to the program
  • Follow specified City & DOT safety regulations
  • Remove litter once a month.
  • Provide data reports stating the number of volunteers, hours, bags of litter collected, and photos to be posted on the City’s website.
  • Attend a safety meeting before litter removal

City Agrees to:

  • Assist with safety meetings
  • Provide safety vests, gloves, litter bags, pick-up sticks, and warning signs (not to exceed 10)
  • Pick up litter bags at specified locations
  • Post Adopt-A-Road sign(s) commending the group
  • If one sign is purchased, the sign will be placed in the center of the one-mile stretch of selected roadway, reminding people not to litter and recognizing the sponsoring business.
  • If two signs are purchased, the signs will be placed at the beginning and end of the selected roadway. (No more than two signs can be placed on site along the roadway)
  • All participating business and non-profit groups will be recognized on the City website.
