Banners & Temporary Signs Permit
Note: The following information is a summary. Submittal requirements will include, but may not be limited to, the below listed documents. The city's complete regulations on signs is viewable within Gridics (Part III Land Development Regulations, Ch 4. Site Development Standards, Art. IV Sign Standards). Applications shall be completely filled out, or shall indicate N/A if not applicable.
Permit applications for banners and temporary signs are submitted through SagesGov.
Required Documents (for all temporary sign types)
- Artwork including all dimensions.
- Plans indicating temporary sign location drawn to scale and with all applicable setbacks. The signs must be setback a minimum of 10 feet and shall not create any visual obstructions.
- A letter indicating the dates of display for standard banners and feather banners.
- Approval letter from the property owner.
Maximum Size
- Temporary Real Estate Signs: ≤ 16 square feet; ≤ 6 foot in height for up to 180 days (signs less than or equal to 5 square feet do not require a permit).
- Standard Banners: ≤ 20 square feet for up to 90 days in a 12 month period.
- Feather Banners: ≤ 30 inches in width, ≤ 10.5 feet in height (see figure 1 below), for up to 90 days in a 12 month period. See additional regulations below.
Feather Banners
Permit applications shall be processed following the same process used for processing other zoning permit applications, with a fee based on reviewer wage and time.
- One banner per business at any time.
- Along business or shopping center frontage: 1 per 300 ft. of linear store frontage.
- If frontage less than 300 ft., no more than 1 banner.
- If property has multiple frontages, 1 per 300 ft. of linear store frontage.
- If placed within 5’ from building, 1 banner per business (not subject to 300 ft. restriction) and it shall not obstruct pedestrian access.
Location (x)
- Min. setback of 10 feet from property line and placed behind hedge row of landscape buffer. (see figure 2a below)
- If landscape or buffer is less than 10ft, within existing landscape buffer, behind continuous hedge row. (see figure 2b below)
- If no hedge, banner may only be placed within 5’ of building. (see figure 2c below)
Prohibited
- In 20’ site triangle of driveways or intersections.
- Attached to landscaping materials.
- Located in or encroaching parking spaces, drive aisles, or sidewalks within street right-of-way.
Duration
- Repeat display period allowed on first-come, first-served basis.
- Permit for an additional ninety (90)-day display period may be requested on a first-come, first-served basis after seven (7) working days following permit expiration.
